Das Internationale Literaturfestival poetry on the road steht für lebendige Poesie: nahbar, offen, beweglich, kooperativ. In unterschiedlichen Veranstaltungsformaten und soziopoetischen Projekten entstehen emotionale Begegnungen zwischen Leben und Lyrik  - auf Bühnen, in den Stadtteilen, im öffentlichen Raum.

Seit mehr als 25 Jahren bringt poetry on the road Lyriker:innen, Spoken Word Artists und Klangpoet:innen aus aller Welt in die UNESCO City of Literature Bremen. Gegründet von Radio Bremen und der Hochschule Bremen, wird das Festival ab 2026 von Radio Bremen und OUT LOUD e.V. gemeinsam veranstaltet.

poetry on the road hat sich weit über die Grenzen Deutschlands hinaus einen Namen gemacht als ein Ort, an dem sich unterschiedlichste Formen von Dichtkunst begegnen. Bekannte Namen treffen auf neue Talente, zarte Poesie auf explosive Klangexperimente, Bildsprache auf Musik. Rund 750 Autor:innen aus mehr als 60 Nationen sind seit Beginn des Festivals in der Hansestadt aufgetreten, darunter weltbekannte Dichter:innen wie Adam Zagajewski, Gioconda Belli, Yoko Tawada, Ernesto Cardenal, Liao Yiwu und die Nobelpreisträger:innnen Herta Müller und Günter Grass. 

The International Literature Festival poetry on the road stands for vibrant poetry: approachable, open, dynamic, and collaborative. Through diverse event formats and socio-poetic projects, emotional encounters between life and poetry emerge – on different stages, in neighborhoods, and also in public spaces.

For more than 25 years, poetry on the road has brought poets, spoken word artists and sound poets from all around the world to Bremen, the UNESCO City of Literature. Founded by Radio Bremen and Hochschule Bremen, the festival will be jointly organized by Radio Bremen and OUT LOUD e.V. starting in 2026.

poetry on the road has made a name for itself far beyond Germany's borders as a place where diverse forms of poetry converge. Established authors meet emerging talents, delicate poetry meets explosive sound experiments, and visual language meets music. Around 750 authors from more than 60 nations have performed in the Hanseatic city since the first festival edition, including world-famous poets such as Adam Zagajewski, Gioconda Belli, Yoko Tawada, Ernesto Cardenal, Liao Yiwu and Nobel laureates Herta Müller and Günter Grass.
